Death Stranding’s New Gameplay Demo Shows Sam’s Safe House

We’re almost at the end of a three and a half year journey that was started by the master of emotions, Hideo Kojima. His ambitious project, Death Stranding, is almost here, and despite being so close to it’s release date, the developer still has some reveals up his sleeve. We already saw an over the top 49 minute gameplay trailer, yes it was that long, so what else could Kojima have to show us? How about another demo where we check out where Sam Porter Bridges hangs out when he’s not looking for shadow monsters.

During a livestream at the Tokyo Game Show 2019 (TGS) Kojima presented what was called the Safe House, a safety hub where Sam can kick back, relax, and act like a complete fool in front of the camera for our amusement. When Sam reaches this room, he will automatically be lying down on the bed. He’ll sit up and wait for you to tell him what to do, but whatever you do, don’t let him catch you staring at his crotch. We’re not making this up, if you stare at his lower regions long enough, he’ll pull your face up and punch you right in the kisser. Kojima, we never want you to change.

Another hilarious action you can have Sam do is make funny faces at the mirror, which you can then immortalize by taking a picture to remember just how insane this game is. The Safe House does have it’s medical functions though. You can clean him up with a shower, have him use the toilet, and re-arm his weaponry and ammunition. You can even have him interact with the Bridge Baby in the glass container where he knocks on it a couple of times before the baby attempts to break out, talk about a nightmare scenario.

Another cool aspect of the Safe House is that you can customize Sam’s backpack, such as adding additional pouches and more batteries albeit by sacrificing room for other supplies. You can also change the color of the bag, if you feel like standing out. There’s a lot more to do in this compacted room which includes changing Sam’s attire, checking the status of missions, reading mail, and special documents that contains the lore of the world and story.

It’s obvious that Kojima is extremely excited about Death Stranding, and how could he not be? He’s spent the last few years toiling and tinkering at this with such a meticulous approach, and his hard work is finally paying off. Either way, we’ll be able to get our hands on this very soon, and then we’ll really see what his vision is all about.

Death Stranding launches on November 9 exclusively for the PlayStation 4. You can check out the Safe House gameplay demo here:
