Despite all of the information that has come out about the game, there is still an awful lot we don’t know about Death Stranding. The upcoming Sony title from an incredible team of collaborators has been shrouded in mystery since it was announced, but we will definitely learn something new at the upcoming Sony press conference from E3.
Let’s start with a recap of what we already know. We’ve covered plenty about this game from the very beginning, but I’ll provide a summary in case you missed any of the craziness. In 2015 Hideo Kojima parted ways with his long time associates at Konami over creative differences. Quick to act, Sony jumped in to make a deal with Kojima. From there, Death Stranding was born.
The original reveal was a 3 minute reveal trailer at E3 back in 2016. It heavily featured The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus, who was originally slated to appear in the now cancelled Silent Hill game before Kojima’s split with Konami.
That trailer left fans with more questions than answers, but was just the start of the flood of information that has come out about the game since. The star studded cast list now also features Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange, Hannibal) , Troy Baker (The Last of Us II), and Emily O’Brien (Days Gone).
The most in depth look at the game came from footage released at the 2017 Game Awards, an eight minute monster of a video with enough content to spark an endless number of analysis articles and videos while everyone just tried to figure out what in the world this game is going to be about.
We know this will be an open world game and that Kojima is looking to provide fans with a story driven game with an emphasis on interesting action and co-op experiences rather than a focus on fighting. We also know that it being made with the DECIMA engine, the same game engine used to make Horizon Zero Dawn, another PS4 exclusive hit from last year.
Last year, the game was notably absent from Sony’s E3 keynote, but that will not be the case this year. Sony has announced that Death Stranding will be part of their lineup at E3, so fans will get some new information soon. The announcement went as far as to say that Sony has a “complete new report for everybody about what is happening around that title.”
It even looks liked there will be another new trailer this year at E3. On Twitter, Kojima seems to be hard at work editing something for his latest title:
So farm, the details surrounding the story of the game and exactly how it will play have been maddeningly vague. Players are eager to learn anything new about what the game will actually be about, and how the scattered elements they are aware of will come together in this modern epic.
To find out, tune in to Sony’s press conference on June 11 at 6 PM PT/ 9 PM ET. For more updates on all things E3 2018, keep an eye on mxdwn Games.
