UPDATE: (6/13 8:09)
Dead Rising 4 was officially announced at Microsoft’s press conference today. Not a lot was revealed about the game, but what was confirmed was the return of Frank West and the Christmas time setting.
Dead Rising 4 will be out this holiday season for Xbox One and Windows 10.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Can’t we save some surprises for the big day(s)?
No, OK, fine.
A few days ago ThisGenGaming reported that Capcom Vancouver, the studio that made the Dead Rising games, will be revealing new game at E3 and it would be an exclusive title. Then yesterday, a follow-up was posted saying that the game would be Dead Rising 4. ThisGenGaming was able to get a hold of some images from the game, one of which being an purported screenshot from the game.
Kotaku was able to confirm the images’ authenticity saying that they saw the same images from a completely different source.
The game may be called Dead Rising 4, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be a new story. Reports suggest that DR4 will actually be a remake of the original Dead Rising with the four in the title potentially referring to the four player co-op the game is rumored to include. Kotaku again corroborated the remake rumor saying that they heard that the game would be set in Willamette, Colorado, the setting of the first game.
NeoGAF user ekim who, according to The Know, was the first to break the news that Microsoft was working on two new Xboxs chimed in saying that the game will take place during Christmas time and would allow players to explore not only the mall but some of the area surrounding it.
Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, who wrote about the Dead Rising 4 leak, said that the theme of Microsoft’s E3 press conference will be “death” and that Dead Rising 4 will be apart of it along with State of Decay 2, a sequel to another popular zombie title that came out a few years ago.
This isn’t too surprising considering that Dead Rising and Dead Rising 3 were both Xbox exclusives. Oddly enough the site that claims to have a source confirming DR4‘s Xbox One exclusivity is PlayStation Lifestyle. If this is true it’s not unlikely that the game would also see simultaneous release on Windows 10, since Microsoft is trying to integrate the two.
As promising as this all sounds, let’s keep in mind that as of right now this is just a rumor. We will get all the all the details next week. Until then remember to check back here for any new information.
