Dead Island 2 is a sequel that has been highly anticipated and has gone through a rough development period since its announcement in 2014. Since its resurgence within the gaming community, fans have been eager for more footage as it nears its release date. Luckily for them, the latest Dead Island 2 showcase highlighted all the new brutal and wild chaos players can get into within their zombie-riddled world.
The event kicked off with a live-action trailer before transitioning to a brief show of new game-play footage, showcasing a wide range of abilities and weapons the player can choose from whether it be katanas, machetes, hammers, or even DIY weapons. However, the most notable feature shown would have to be the first look into the player zombie game-play. The power of a zombie bite can grant players enhanced strength and durability to rip through a wide range of zombie enemies.
A limited edition of Dead Island 2 was also announced. Dead Island 2 HELL-A Edition includes a Steelbook case, Expansion Pass, Venice Beach Travel Map, 6 Slayer Tarot Cards, 2 Pin Badges, 1 Patch, Pulp Weapons Pack, Golden Weapons Pack, and Character Packs 1 & 2. Pre-orders for the HELL-A Edition will unlock the Memories of Banoi pack containing a Banoi War Club, Banoi Baseball Bat, and Personal Space Skill Card, and signing up for the game’s newsletter will grant players access to an in-game knife.
Lastly, the showcase revealed Alexa Game Control support for Dead Island 2. Xbox and PC users in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom will be able to use voice commands to perform in-game actions. As of right now, these Alexa functions will only work in English. Players can see the list of control commands and the newsletter sign-up on the game’s website.
Dead Island 2 is finally coming to Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC on April 28, 2023. Although it is a slight delay from its previous February release date, seeing its release after its long development history is satisfying.
