Tim Shaffer of Double Fine Development Studio along with a special curation community has gathered a collection of independent games in what was known as Day of The Devs The Game Awards Edition Digital Showcase. Detailed below is a brief synopsis of each game that was showcased.
Faraway from developer Little Eyes is a single player, one button, procedurally generated game that allows players to weave constellations and compete against other players online for high scores. Players will swing past stars drawing themselves into constellations, extracting life energy while improvising how to connect them. The game features multiple modes, expanding replayability. You can expect it to be released sometime for PC in 2025.
Clever endeavor shared it’s game Ultimate Sheep Raccoon, a multiplayer game where you’ll play as anthropomorphic animals riding bicycles and race other each other to the finish line while dodging and jumping over various hazards. The game does not have a set release, but is available to wishlist on Steam.
Sleight of Hand by Developer RiffRaff Games is a third person stealth game that blends tactical espionage with strategic card play. You’ll play as detective Lady Luck, who is pulled out of retirement for one final job. The stealth elements of the game are interwoven seamlessly with the card playing aspect, the developers have likened it to a metal gear solid where your tools are cards. The game does not have a set release, but is available for wishlist on Steam.
Demons Tides by Fabraz is an action platformer. The game features a highly interchangeable move list as you travel across the world’s vibrant open sea. Players can challenge each other’s ghost recordings. As the emphasis of this game is expression, your character wardrobe options are many. The game can be wishlisted on Steam for further updates.
Kingmakers by Redemption Road Games plays as a team of time travelers with modern military equipment fighting battles in medieval England to change the course of history. The game is a third person shooter with thousands of soldiers having skirmishes on the battlefield, you can build cities and castles in the countryside. Everything is destructible in Kingmakers. You can play with up to 3 players cooperatively. The game enters early access for PC in 2025.
Recur by Astralogical is a time based platformer. The game features a stylized cartoon aesthetic. The game does not have a set release date but is available on the Steam wishlist.
Blue Prince by Dogubomb is an atmospheric architectural adventure game. You’ll explore a mysterious house of ever shifting rooms. Exploration is heavily emphasized, 45 unique rooms are contained within the house and a hidden room known only as room 46. The game is set for a Spring 2025 release on PC.
Incolatus: Don’t Stop, Girlypop! by Funny Fintan Softworks is a ‘girlie-pop’ inspired first person shooter. Where the faster you go the more damage you deal and faster you heal. Going faster will also expand your artillery, your guns will grow more barrels and scopes. The game features a dress up portion based on 2000’s flash dress up games, allowing you to customize your character and guns. The game can be wishlisted on Steam now.
LOK Digital by Letibus Design and Icedrop Games is a puzzle game where you learn words of a fantastical language to help create a world for the Lok creatures. The game plays similarly to word search puzzles but uses a unique language. Players can compete against friends online or on a global leaderboard. The game is launching for PC today slated for release on iOS and Android early 2025.
Neon Abyss 2 by Developer Veewo is a colorful 2D run and gun roguelike. The game follows the 2020 sequel, which includes a new weapon system which lets you choose your weapon style. The game is set for release on PC in 2025 and is available on the wishlist on Steam.
Crescent County by Electric Saint you play as Luke, a ‘mid-twenties disaster’ who’s moved to the isle of Mora and discovers the subculture of punk-rock street racing. You’ll make deliveries on your bike, herd sheep, and use the money to buy parts to improve your bike. You’re able to participate in impromptu races against your new island friends. The game features romance options in dialogue. A playtest is available on Steam and Itch.io currently, the full game does not have a release date but is available for wishlist on Steam.
PBJ -The Musical by Developer Kamibox follows the thought process of what Shakespeare may have written in modern times. Through 10 musical acts, you’ll guide a rebelling strawberry and a disillusioned peanut through interactive paper collages. Everything on display within the game is handmade, primarily from vintage cookbooks. Players can interact with everything on the screen by pushing and pulling. A release date has not been mentioned at this time.
Curiosmos by Developers Celine & The Silly Stars is a game where you create a planet from stardust. You can create mountains, valleys, volcanos, oceans and the weather can be altered. Overtime evolution can occur on your planet, eventually moving onto other planets in your system. The game is available to wishlist on Steam now.
Bionic Bay by Developers Psychoflow Studio and Mureena Oy is a 2D action platformer where you control the flow of time. You’ll be able to shift gravity in levels as well as teleport. The game features online competitive play where players will race against each other.
In inKONBINI: One Store. Many Stories by Developer Nagai Industries you play as Makoto, a girl who comes to help her aunt with the night shift at the convenience store. You stock shelves and keep things in order. You can check items and arrange them however you want, customers will take note. You will locate different items within the store and piece together new stories. The soundtrack is inspired by Japanese hits from the 90’s. The game is being developed for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox Series X|S.
Feltopia by Developer Wooly Games and Andrea Love is a hand-felt, stop motion video game. The game takes inspiration from side-scrolling shoot em ups. The only difference here is that instead of destroying enemies you are transforming them back into a ‘true form’. Each character, landscape, and special effect is brought to life one frame at a time. You play as sky rider, a sheep herder with magic powers on quest to save his rainbow flock. Feltopia is scheduled to release in 2026, the game is available to wishlist on Steam.
Blippo+ by Developers YACHT, Telefantasy Studios, and Panic Inc Players responsible for Untitled Goose Game, comes a cryptic trailer in one bit grayscale. The trailer features various live actors and actresses with seemingly random lines. The words ‘REVOLUTIONARY NEW TELEVISION EXPERIENCE’ appear on screen. Topics of spirituality and science are frequently mentioned among the newscasters and sales type personalities on screen. One broadcaster describes Blippo as not being television but poetry in motion rather. Another broadcaster suggest you can sign up to find out when Blippo+ will be available in your area at Blippo.plus though the website leads to a page of nothing but white noise, No announcement on a definitive release date has been set, nor clarification on what Blippo+ even is.
Hyper Light Break from Developer Heart Machine is launching on Steam early access in January 2025. The game is a co-op open world roguelike set in the world of Hyper Light. You take the role of a breaker, you are on a mission to restore civilization. Your objective is to explore the overgrowth while taking down the crowns, who know the secret of the curse within the overgrowth. Additional content will be added after early access.
In TankHead by Developer and Publisher Alpha Channel players will assume the role of a ‘sleepwalker’, someone who has uploaded their consciousness into a mechanical shell in order to enter the irradiated wasteland known as the ECA. Illegal factions struggle for survival while authority maintains power with an iron fist. You’ll operate a light tank, quick, and devastating in damage. weapons, armor, wheels, and abilities are all interchangeable. Players will break down enemies, revealing enemies weak points and use their parts to salvage or exchange. Bosses are referred to as ‘TankHeads’. The game is currently available on PC now.
