As is the case with most new releases, dataminers have scoured the code for Apex Legends and may have uncovered some files about upcoming game modes and legends. While Apex has released its year one roadmap already, obviously, the details surrounding the content still remains under wraps. Those patient souls willing to sift through lines and lines of code have found further insight into what’s to come for the newest battle royale game.
One such miner, who goes by RealApexLeaks, uncovered files that hint at the release of new Survival game mode, according to Gaming INTEL. The theory for Survival mode is players pitted against computer bots, though the article is quick to mention that it is merely speculation at this point. Further investigation into the code revealed the potential presence of spectators watching the action from the sidelines. According to a section of code, it looks like the crowd will be able to perform emote-like actions, such as cheering and chanting. And what’s the point of a crowd if there’s not an announcer to tell them how to feel about the match? Commentator code was also found that alludes to a narrated ranking system based on player performance.
RealApexLeaks also discovered what they believe to be two new legends as well. According to their Tweet, we may be seeing Octane and Wattson in the near future as brand new playable characters. The code also indicated abilities for each, one called Stim for Octane, and Tesla Trap for Wattson. Though further details on the abilities have yet to be uncovered, some are postulating that Stim will work similarly to the pilot tactical from Titanfall 2, giving a boost of speed and slight healing buff, and Tesla Trap will be some sort of deployable electric device to trip up the enemy.
With all the new information now circulating around and causing quite a buzz, it’s important to remember that no official announcements have been made by Apex confirming nor denying the information uncovered in the code. Dataminers such as RealApexLeaks are making assumptions based on lines of code with cryptic keywords, and while the research seems thorough, there are always other factors in play; the data could be misread, misconstrued, or completely scrapped altogether by the devs somewhere down the line. According to the roadmap, it may be a few months until we see the accuracy of the assumptions.
