Dark Souls: Remastered Announced During Latest Nintendo Direct

Dark Souls has been a beloved entry in the Souls series. Players who are die hard fans of the original Dark Souls, or have not had a chance to experience the critically acclaimed ARPG masterpiece, will be pleased to know that Dark Souls: Remastered was just announced for later this year in the latest Nintendo Direct.

This announcement comes as a great treat for the Souls series. Early last year, Hidetaka Miyazaki, the president of From Software, said that there were no more plans to continue the Souls series. Although it is not a new entry into the series, the remaster will bring a lot of updates and quality of life changes for the current generation of consoles.

According to Forbes, Dark Souls: Remastered will have a password matchmaking system similar to what Dark Souls III had. Also, six players will be able to participate in the same online instance this time around, which is up from four in the original. Additionally, the title will come with dedicated servers as opposed to the peer-to-peer connection that made online play in the original a hassle. One of the most attractive parts of Dark Souls: Remastered is the graphics, and the game will have its graphics beefed up quite a bit.

For the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game, Dark Souls: Remastered will run at 1080p will at a solid 60 fps. For the newer Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro versions, the game will run at an upscaled 4K resolution while still maintaining 60 fps. The Nintendo Switch will run at 1080p on TV mode and 720p while in handheld mode, but it will be locked at 30 fps for both modes. The PC version will run at a native 4K resolution, with all textures at 2K unconverted, and will run at 60 fps as well.

All of the game’s contents, including DLC, should come with the remastered edition. No price tag has been attached to the title, but Dark Souls: Remastered will be available digitally and physically for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4,  Xbox One, and PC on May 24.
