Have you always wanted to see what a gritty, grindhouse version of Dark Souls would look like on VHS? Well, wonder no more!
To mark the1st of April–a day known for general tomfoolery, but more importantly the month of the Dark Souls III official Western release–Bandai Entertainment has release a tongue-and-cheek “trailer” for April Fools. The trailer, seen below, transports us back to a time where narrators dramatically moved action along, audio and visual got kind of wonky as the ribbon became beaten from use, and people were often told to ‘be kind, and rewind.’
With the game already released and going over exceedingly well with players in Japan, both of the games developers and publishers have been actively amping up the hype the past few months. Releasing various additional trailers, greenlighting backwards compatibility, a companion comic to be published alongside the game, as well as an animated short directed by Eli Roth–the hype has become very, very real.
Don’t go looking too far into it, however, the trailer is indeed a prank. Don’t rush to your nearest antique store and buy a VHS player. However, do prepare your hard drives for Dark Souls III for your Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game will be out this coming April 11th (there’s still time to pre order!), and will be available for purchase at $60 USD. Dark Souls III will also be coming out with a fantastic Collector’s Edition for approximately $130, and a mysterious Prestige Edition to be released later. Steam is also offering a bundle where they throw in the game plus a Steam Controller (or a Deluxe version of the game AND a Steam controller)–if there was ever a good time for Dark Souls fans to crack open their wallets, it’s now.
Get ready to die, cry, yell, scream, and have tons of fun playing Dark Souls III out on the 11th of this month!
