Acording to IGN, the team behind the critically acclaimed Dark Souls franchise has just teased the brand new DLC for the third entry in the series. In a tweet sent out by the official Dark Souls account, the team teased an announcement on August 24.
Details on what the announcement will entail are scarce. It should be noted that Namco Bandai has not officially come out to announce DLC. However, concept art for future Dark Souls III DLC was leaked a day ago by segmentnext. New environments and enemies were showcased in the leaked artwork. In addition, IGN and Mircosoft revealed the existence of planned Dark Souls III DLC. The Xbox One store listed a Dark Souls III Season Pass. The description includes two DLCs; one in Fall and another sometime next year.
Dark Souls III was released back in March to rave reviews from publications such as IGN and Game Informer. IGN game the game 9.5/10 and wrote that “Dark Souls 3 offers up tons of fierce weapons and a majestic, terrifying new land to explore.” Game Informer gave a similarly glowing score of 9.25/10.
However, one bit of contention that fans and critics had with the game was the framerate on PCs. IGN claimed that the game suffered from dramatic framerate dips “even on an ultra-high-end PC with two GeForce GTX Titan Zs” and that the performance sometimes went “down to 20 to 25 FPS.”
Future DLC might be the last that gamers will see of the series. In an interview Gamespot conducted with Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki, he said that he wanted From Software to move on and bring new franchises to the medium. Below is an excerpt from the interview:
I believe that From Software has to create new things. There will be new types of games coming from us, and Dark Souls III is an important marker in the evolution of From Software.
Time will tell if the announcement will be about the aformentioned DLC or simply more “get gud” memes.
