Publisher Serenity Forge and developer Hack The Publisher have announced that their “Unreliable narrative-driven adventure game” Centum will release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on March 11. Gematsu reports that this release date announcement comes with the introduction of the Nintendo Switch version.
Simply put, you are a prisoner within Centum, found within a cell; your goal is to escape, however, as developer Hack The Publisher puts it, is that really the goal? Centum features multiple protagonists whose behaviors you’ll shape and conversations you’ll use to shift characters’ egos ultimately controlling the story.
EIP Gaming asked Hack The Publisher’s Project Manager Máté Gecser to elaborate on development’s use of various cells, Máté responded “…The thought is that, as you experience the game, there is an AI in the game. And based on the comments you make, the choices you run with, the tasks you start and finish, that AI is shaping the world around you. And, because of that, you are jumping to different dimensions and locations. And this AI, it can make your life easier, or it can make your life harder. You experience highs and lows based on the AI’s whims, but, of course, you don’t know what its whims are. It gets to manipulate the world around you, but you don’t know anything that would let you do the same to it. I mean, the AI has an obvious job, and that is to keep you in the prison, whatever shape that takes. To ensure you don’t leave your cell.”
Hack The Publisher aims to deliver a thought provoking title challenging not only the game but the player’s own beliefs. Players seeking a deep and mind-bending experience may expect something that will provide a unique challenge for their skills and perhaps more.
