Cyberpunk Will Not Have Micro-Transactions Despite ESRB Description

Recently Cyberpunk 2077‘s rating was up for speculation after it was rated 18+ in Brazil, but the game will officially be rated M for Mature by the ESRB as opposed to what could have been a troubling AO (Adults Only) rating.  The description for the rating has caused a bit more controversy, however.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been one of the most anticipated games of the year for quite some time, especially because originally it would have already released.  Because of this excitement around the game, many people are over-analyzing every new bit of information that comes out about the game.  Developer CD Project Red had stated from the start that Cyberpunk will be a single-player game and that there will be no microtransactions, but the ESRB rating states that there will be in-game purchases.

Cyberpunk’s PR manager Fabian Döhla has clarified the situation however, explaining that this only means the DLC will be available to buy within the game. Much like The Witcher 3, extensive narrative DLC will be available at some point down the line which will be available for purchase.

The ESRB description also reveals some information about the level of customization that players will have for V (the playable character.

The game contains nudity and sexual material: Players can select a gender and customize their character; customization can include depictions of breasts, buttocks, and genitalia, as well as various sizes and combinations of genitals.

CD has already revealed that there would be a lot of customization, which makes sense since a high element of the game revolves around cybernetically enhancing your body in different ways that result in different play styles.  They also revealed that there would be motion captured sex scenes that take place in first person.  What not many people expected, however, is the ability to customize V’s body to this extent. The phrase “combinations of genitals” is interesting, as it implies that your V could be transgender, which would make it one of, if not the first mainstream game that allows you to play as a transgender character.

Regardless of your choices on this customization front, as of now, Cyberpunk 2077 will be available for you to play – micro-transaction free – on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 in September.
