CD PROJEKT RED has officially announced Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, a new standalone anime set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, in partnership once again with acclaimed animation studio TRIGGER. The reveal came during a special panel at Anime Expo 2025 in Los Angeles, marking the return of the celebrated universe with a brand-new story, director, and creative direction. The series is currently in production and will release on Netflix according to a press release.

Hosted by Joey “The Anime Man” Bizinger, the panel featured Cyberpunk: Edgerunners story writer and producer Bartosz Sztybor, director Hiroyuki Imaishi, and voice actors Emi Lo and Zach Aguilar, who portrayed Lucy Kushinada and David Martinez, respectively. The event served both as a retrospective celebration of the original series and a first look into the future of the franchise.

Following reflections on the legacy and impact of Edgerunners, Sztybor officially confirmed the development of Edgerunners 2 alongside studio TRIGGER. The announcement was accompanied by the debut of the sequel’s logo and poster artwork, revealed live to the audience. Director Hiroyuki Imaishi also appeared as a special guest, before formally passing the torch to Kai Ikarashi, who will make his directorial debut with the new project. Ikarashi previously worked on both Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and SSSS.Gridman, and joined the panel through a pre-recorded message that included a “Director’s Voice” segment detailing his vision for the upcoming anime.

“David’s story might be over, but there’s plenty more to discover in Night City,” said Sztybor during the panel. “And to again have the legendary animation studio TRIGGER along for the ride makes us at CD PROJEKT RED so excited to introduce a raw, real chronicle of redemption and revenge, something unlike what we’ve done before.”

The new anime will also bring together returning and new talent behind the scenes. Kanno Ichigo, known for Promare and Edgerunners, will serve as lead character designer, while Promare and Gurren Lagann screenwriter Masahiko Otsuka is on board to handle the screenplay adaptation. The panel concluded with an invitation-only teaser screening held at the Peacock Theater later that evening during TRIGGER’s own Anime Expo showcase.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is now in production and will stream globally on Netflix. Updates and additional details will be available through the official website and across CD PROJEKT RED’s social media channels.
