Cyberpunk 2077 Gets Full Gameplay Reveal

Since the game’s initial reveal over 5 years ago, developer CD Projekt Red have been pretty tight lipped about their upcoming RPG Cyberpunk 2077. The game got a brand new trailer which showed off the game’s environment this past E3, and it even had a private demo for select members of the press to view.

However, after viewing the trailer, many excited fans were wondering when they would get the chance to see some actual gameplay for themselves. Now the wait is finally over, and CD Projekt Red is ready to show players what they have been working on for the past 5 years. Following a mysterious Twitch stream that the developer recently hosted, many tuned in not knowing what the nature of the stream was and what the cryptic code that was filling the screen exactly meant, but there were those who speculated that CD Projekt Red definitely were teasing something big to show us.

The stream finally concluded with an extended reveal of the game. The footage was taken from the same demo that was shown behind closed doors at E3 2018 as well as Gamescom 2018. The vast sprawling environment, intricate customization, character interactions, dialogue choices, combat, as well as vehicle mechanics were shown off in a seamless fashion. However, the developers wanted to make it clear that the game is still a work in progress and therefore many elements are subject to change throughout the game. Game director Adam Badowski has this to say about the footage before showcasing it.

What we’re releasing today was recorded from a game deep in development. Since many of the assets and mechanics in the current version of Cyberpunk 2077 are most likely to be modified, we initially decided to show this gameplay only to media. Elements like gunplay (both in terms of visuals and how RPG stats influence it), netrunning, car physics, or the game’s UI–everything’s pretty much still in the playtest phase and we felt uneasy about publicly committing to any particular design. Animation glitches, work-in-progress character facial expressions, early versions of locations–all this made us hesitant to release what you’re about to see.
