In what can only be described as a fleeting moment, Cuphead was briefly spotted in the international PSN Store before it was removed completely. At first it was seen and posted to ResetEra by user Alchemist, and then promptly tweeted out by well known video game aficionado’s such as Wario64. Prior to this, the Summer Games Fest host/creator Geoff Keighly tweeted out a special update is coming this Tuesday by “one of our favorite indie game studios.” This, along with the accidental post, has lead the video game community to start thinking that Cuphead will eventually be announced for the PlayStation 4, possibly on Tuesday.
As you can see in top tweet, Cuphead clearly appears on the store, but according to the post, the game does not have a specific description or an actual splash page. However it wasn’t long after this that the listing was taken down. As we said earlier, both the post and the announcement by Geoff Keighly strongly suggest that Studio MDHR will announce Cuphead for Sony’s home console. It’s possible that the game will become available immediately, making it a shadow drop.
Cuphead has been available for multiple systems since it originally came out in 2017. First launching for both the Xbox One and PC, the game was critically acclaimed for it’s amazing combination of 1930’s art-style mixed with the side-scrolling gameplay mechanics. It would eventually sell more than 2 million copies within its first few months. In 2019, the game was brought over to the Nintendo Switch, where it was also well received. It’s actually very surprising that the title was never ported to the PlayStation 4 up to this point. It’s one of the few instances where a game was introduced on the Switch before either the Xbox One or the PlayStation 4.
Besides that, the Cuphead brand in general has been busy with future content such as the upcoming DLC, The Delicious Last Course, which was announced back in 2018. That piece of content has also been spotted on the Microsoft Store, but neither company has made any official comment in this regard. On top of that, it was also announced last year that Cuphead would be getting its own Netflix adaptation, where it will be an animated comedy series.
