CoroCoro Comic Scans Reveal Mewtwo, Garchomp, Braixen in Pokken Tournament

“To find all of the latest Pokémon news,” a wise man once said, “one must read CoroCoro magazine.”

Nobody ever actually said that, but CoroCoro Comic – a popular Japanese magazine targeted at young boys – is often the ground zero source for breaking Pokémon news. Bandai Namco’s upcoming Pokémon-themed fighting game, Pokken Tournament, is included in the Poké-mix. The latest issue of CoroCoro revealed three new playable fighters for Pokken: the land shark-dragon (and the scourge of Generation 4’s competitive scene, some would say) Garchomp, the fire witch-cross-kitsune Braixen, and fan-favorite Mewtwo.

These three popular choices are likely to make a splash in the Pokémon community once their gameplay footage is revealed. Though Mewtwo was not revealed before, a secret Dark Mewtwo boss found late last year within the test versions of the arcade game all but confirmed the Psychic juggernaut’s existence in Pokken.

The CoroCoro scans reveal additional updates on other corner of the Pokémon empire. A new Scrap Campaign will launch in Japan, where players can redeem codes found on Pokémon merchandise that can be redeemed for special prizes. Among them are a shiny Eevee, as well as the Legendary Birds – Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres – with their Hidden Abilities, which were previously unattainable. The scans also detail the upcoming movie featuring the legendary Pokémon Volcanion, who seems to be quite the misanthrope.

Credits go to Serebii.com for translating the CoroCoro scans.

While Pokken Tournament is currently available for play in Japanese arcades, it will see a Japanese Wii U release on March 18. American and European Wii U releases are soon to follow, with a release date some time in Spring 2016.
