Publisher THQ Nordic and developer Tarsier Studios have released two new trailers confirming the launch of their cooperative horror adventure title REANIMAL. Gematsu reports that REANIMAL is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC Q1 2026.
The setting of REANIMAL is a mysterious island where the threat of mutated animal creatures makes the entire environment hostile; These monsters are a physical manifestation of the protagonists’ shared childhood trauma and fears. Players will assume the roles of a nameless brother and sister with the goal of escaping the island and rescuing their missing friends.
Players in REANIMAL will explore by boat and on land, featuring cooperative play or with an AI companion; players can play locally or online. The title features an atmosphere with storytelling similar to Tarsier Studio’s previous work Little Nightmares and Little Nightmares II.
Prankster 101 Productions interviewed Tarsier Studios CEO Oliver Merlov and asked about the REANIMAL‘s length, Merlov answered “…the game isn’t an open world, but there is room for openness and freedom. But for us, the game needs to be substantial enough to be able to tell a story and to also convey it, whilst also giving players an experience. But it always has to be quality. If it’s not quality, it’s out. So we’re good at cutting stuff. Instead of having the attitude that we need to have more and more content, because that fits certain types of games and that’s how you play those games, we want our games to be shorter, but still be big enough to be able to provide a substantial experience for the player.”
Tarsier Studios aims to create a high-quality experience, prioritizing its cohesiveness over an endless open world. Fans of the Little Nightmares series have this one to look forward to next year.
