Cooking Themed Metroidvania-Lite Magical Delicacy Announced This Year For PlayStation 5 And PlayStation 4

Publisher Whitehorn Games and developer Skaule have announced that their cooking themed, combat-free Metroidvania-lite Magical Delicacy will be released this year on both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. Gematsu reports Magical Delicacy initially launched on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on July 16 2024 and a Nintendo Switch release on August 15 2024, these were met with a generally positive reception.

In Magical Delicacy you assume the player role of Flora, having left her home and settling in Grat to build her magic and become a fully fledged witch. Flora also quickly learns the role of cook for the townsfolk as well; The game features a trade system, where you’ll earn your new recipes and a cooking system which allows for creative ways to fulfill orders.

Steven Kaule the sole developer at Skaule was interviewed by GAMER SOCIAL CLUB and asked what made him decide on the creative direction of Magical Delicacy, he had this to say “As a fan of countless Metroidvania and souls-like games, I plainly started to take my idea and mold it into that genre, stripped bare of all ties to combat. The cooking part came naturally from the cozy witch setting I chose. Starting with potions, I expanded that to all kinds of food. From there, it was about identifying classical Metroidvania mechanics, especially in terms of map progression, and finding a way to make that work with the cooking and delivery mechanics.”

Magical Delicacy has proven to hold a bit of success within its respective communities, which may be attributed to developer Skaules broad approach to development. Broadening the reach of this title may serve to grab the attention of those still sitting on the fence or those strictly playing on Sony’s home consoles. What is certain is that Magical Delicacy will be going all out this year.
