Xbox Game Pass is a subscription-based program that offers subscribers a constantly rotating library of games that can be played, along with another set of discounts for other games. While Game Pass’s largest selling point has been the free inclusion of Microsoft’s first-party games including the revered Halo franchise or the newer but popular RPG The Outer Worlds. Microsoft has started hinted at what is coming to Game Pass in December month. The first update is that the Game Pass and EA Play, Electronic Arts versions of the service that Game Pass provides, are merging into one larger subscription. The EA Play and Game Pass merger has gone through a trial run on consoles and will be coming to PC through the beta version of the Xbox app on Windows 10.
EA Play will bring the Battlefield and Titanfall FPS games along with EA’s overwhelming library of sports titles, both of which the Game Pass had a small selection to draw from. The merge may also make the Star Wars franchise of games even more accessible to players who wouldn’t have bought the game otherwise. Game Pass hinted at the inclusion of one of 2019’s largest launches, a big change as most of the library is indie or small projects from more obscure teams. Microsoft did not directly tell what game was coming but gave it away with the “REDACTED” label in lieu of a name. The game that is being hinted at is Remedy’s Control, something fans have been asking for.
The clue was a clear giveaway as using the term “REDACTED”, often in red text or highlighting was a cornerstone of Control’s marketing and image. Using that has symbology comes from Control’s inspiration, the universe of the SCP Foundation which follows a secret organization collecting unexplainable objects and threats, something that sets the world and premise of Control’s story perfectly. It is unlikely that Control’s DLCs will be available for free, but will most likely have a discounted price.
