Concord, the upcoming 5v5 hero shooter from Firewalk Studios, revealed a new cinematic trailer, extended gameplay, an upcoming beta, and a release date of August 23 at today’s PlayStation State of Play, as well as in a post on the PlayStation Blog. Kicking off the first showcase of this year’s Summer Games Fest, Concord opened with a bang, featuring interviews with developers and breaking down some of the many characters and mechanics coming when the game launches in a few months.
Firewalk Studios started with a new cinematic trailer, introducing five of the game’s playable characters and giving us a peek into the title’s sci-fi setting. The gang of misfits execute a heist for a strange piece of space tech, with a chaotic level of cooperation like something straight out of Guardians of the Galaxy. Developers would reveal later in the showcase that upon the game’s launch, players would be able to see a new cinematic short every week, containing overarching stories and even more characters. The cinematic trailer can be watched in full below:
Next, they played a new gameplay trailer for Concord showing off the five characters we see in the cinematic trailer (there will be several more characters at launch, however). The 5v5 shooter showed off powers and weapons unique to each character (who we also learned the names of) as well as some of the maps and mechanics in the game. Tech-enhanced sniper Vale is seen boosting into the air with a jetpack, gun-slinging alien Lennox wields a revolver not-unlike Cassidy’s from Overwatch, and the brutish Star Child shows off a range of melee attacks, just to name a few. The full gameplay trailer can be seen below:
Finally, Firewalk Studios revealed an upcoming beta in July of this year, with early access given to those that pre-order the game starting on June 6. Pre-orders come with 4 extra entries into the beta, so you can bring your friends along with you to play as a full squad before the game releases on August 23. The full PlayStation State of Play event from Summer Games Fest can be seen here.
