Cold War Shooter Industria Announced

Industria is being developed by Bleakmill and is set in East Berlin on the night before the collapse of the Berlin Wall. The game will follow east German citizen Nora as she waits to flee to the west although the trailer deviated quickly and shows off more of the action FPS mechanics that will be the core of the gameplay loop. The game trailer hints at an atmosphere reminiscent of Half-Life and BioShock.  “On the evening of the fall of the Berlin wall, a young woman plunges headlong into a parallel dimension to find her missing work colleague who has disappeared under mysterious circumstances. While the checkpoints in East Berlin are still being overrun by crowds of people, Nora escapes from this world, into unknown layers of time and into an unknown fate,” Blackmill’s summary on Steam.

As the summary shows, when the wall collapses, Nora will have to enter another dimension. The pocket dimension shows off a landscape in turmoil and filled in automata and floating people inside a densely packed city that vaguely resembles Berlin from our dimension. The world does heavily feature an industrial tone that is common with east Berlin from the Cold War but some apartments are oddly colorful with yellow and orange hues but show signs of wear and aging.

The trailer revealed a few enemies that ranged from hip sized robots to skyscraper machines built in the human form. No other people are shown or referenced other than Walter, who is the colleague in question that Nora is searching for.

Bleakmill promises that Industria offers a tightly and atmospheric narrative that till last for about four hours and a soundtrack that is synthesized to match the industrial setting to give another level of horror and pressure. Industria has no release date but Bleakmill and their publisher Headup plan to get the game out in 2021.

Griffin Gilman: Gaming may very well be half of my personality, so it is only natural that I write about them. The best genre is RPGs, while the best game is Nier Automata. That's not an opinion but a matter of facts.
