Codemasters Teases New GRID Game

Fans of the highly acclaimed racing series GRID have reason to be excited, as a teaser trailer for what can only possibly be a new entry to the series has been put up by British developer Codemasters.

The trailer, which really puts the ‘tease’ in ‘teaser’, lasts for all of 17 seconds and shows nothing more than several bursts of red-hot exhaust trails accompanied by the sounds of cars zipping by. It concludes with the GRID insignia, with the date 22.4.14 emblazoned on it and the hashtag ‘RACINGISCOMING’ below it.

Additionally, Codemasters’ Community Manager Ben Walk wrote on Twitter that “Next Tuesday’s announcement will NOT have the words Android or iOS in them.”

Meanwhile, on NeoGAF, Codemasters said that the teaser trailer “isn’t DLC […] Cockpit view? We listened..”

Rumors of a new GRID title have been floating around since last November, when Codemasters put out a blog post calling for “Test Drivers” for a “super-exclusive, super-secret early game access.”

When you add all the evidence up, it is unmistakable that Codemasters are set to reveal the next full-fledged entry to the GRID series, and that it will have the cockpit view that its predecessor did not.

GRID is one of Codemasters’ racing franchises, the others being the F1 racing games and Dirt, which covers rally racing. Originally known as TOCA and focusing on touring car racing, the series eventually was renamed to GRID and encompassed a wider variety of motor racing. The latest game in the series, GRID 2, was highly praised for having a balance of realism and accessibility.

More on this new addition to the series will be revealed on Tuesday.
