Jeffrey Rosen and John Graham founded Humble Bundle, the online digital games storefront, in 2010 and have lead the charge as CEO and COO, respectively, since. According to recent story from Gamesindustry.biz, that is no longer the case. Both Rosen and Graham have stepped down from their roles within the company, making room for industry vet, Alan Patmore, to take the reins.
Patmore, though still green in the digital storefront area, was chief product officer at Kixeye, a games development company known for their MMO strategy games. Before that, Patmore worked for Zynga, known best for mobile and social network games, and was president of product development at games developer Double Fine.
Patmore will assume the role of executive vice president and general manager, and believes his experience will allow him to succeed in his first foray into the online storefront market. “My experience with free-to-play and social gaming is actually pretty applicable to a digital storefront like Humble. There are a lot of similarities in terms of process, development, economics, and even ethos,” says Patmore.
Though Rosen and Graham have passed the day-to-day responsibilities of the company to Patmore, they will stay on in an advisory role. “We’re not leaving. We’ll still be here — more as advisors — all the way until the end of the year, and hopefully a long way past that. But we’re more startup kinda guys, and Humble Bundle has become huge,” says Rosen. Humble Bundle is just coming off their best year yet according to Graham. “The business is doing amazingly well; 2018 was our best year, and 2019 is off to our best start ever.”
Patmore also plans to continue the companies altruism as well. Humble Bundle as company has donated $146 million to charity in its nine-year history and donated a whopping $25 million in 2018 alone. Patmore says that he’s “always viewed Humble Bundle as a force for good in this industry.” While it will be sad to see Rosen and Graham take a step back from the amazing company they’ve built, the sky is the limit for Patmore and we can expect to see Humble Bundle continue to thrive for years to come.
