Circus-Themed Platformer ‘Avner’ Released

Israeli-based developer Corbomite Games have released their latest endeavor, the puzzle platformer Avner.

Available on both the PC and mobile devices, Avner casts players as the titular character, a grotesque looking man who the developers insist is a “hero,” despite the fact that he manages to get himself captured and forced into the life of a circus performer.

Of course, every puzzle platformer has to have some kind of special twist to the formula, and Avner‘s lies in its protagonist’s telekinetic abilities that allow him to push and pull objects with his mind. In the below gameplay video, you can see how Avner uses this to create makeshift bridges to cross inaccessible areas.

Avner began life as a project between two students at Shenkar College’s Game Design School, Doron Weiss and Gil Elnekave. They submitted it to the OUYA Killscreen CREATE Competition, a game jam competition sponsored by the afore-mentioned companies, and won the best overall game award, along with best visuals. The game then attracted the interest in Corbomite Games’ CEO Oded Sharon, who said:

I fell in love with the unique concept, amazing graphics and relatively high polish of this game as soon as I saw it, when it was still being developed as a student’s game. I offered Doron and Gil, my former students a chance to help them and publish their games in both Mobile and Desktop and other platforms. In the past few months we’ve been working hard to polishing and finishing the development of the game for its release.

Currently, Avner is available at the iOS, Google and Windows 8 App stores, as well as Corbomite’s website, where you can buy the game for whatever price you deem appropriate. The game is also seeking approval on Steam Greenlight.
