Chrono Trigger For Steam Gets New Update To Improve Visuals

Earlier this year developer Square Enix unexpectedly released their popular classic RPG Chrono Trigger on Steam. Initially many longtime fans of the game were excited to see the title released on Steam. However, after playing it they quickly realized that the game wasn’t up to par with the original that captured their hearts years ago.

This version of the game was based on a mobile port which included remnants of a touch based interface, wonky looking fonts and dialogue boxes, and on top of that the graphics didn’t reflect the original at all and ultimately disgusted players.

The port received mostly negative reviews on Steam thus far, but Square Enix promised that they will provide a series of updates in order to address the concerns of the players expressed by these reviews. The first step the developer did to right those wrongs with the new patch that they just released for the Steam version of Chrono Trigger.

The patch adds an “Original” graphics setting to set to make the visuals more true to the original version, updated font and dialogue boxes that reflect the classics, and a feature that reorders the animated sequences when starting a new game. Square Enix also states that in the future they will improve the resolution for animated cutscenes, add UI adjustments for players using a gamepad or a keyboard and mouse, and many other various updates throughout the game.

Also, in case the initial negative reviews discouraged some fans from buying the limited edition of the game, Square Enix has prolonged it’s availability period up until April 30, 2018.
