The ChinaJoy Game Show on Steam is in full swing after kicking off on July 30. The festival’s intent is to shed light on China developed games, though it is explicitly stated that the Steam specific “online gaming event [is] designed for game developers and players worldwide.” The ChinaJoy Game Festival is in its fourth year, having been “held in conjunction with the offline “ChinaJoy x Game Connection INDIE GAME” exhibition” since 2023. The online festival is essential, as it “connects online and offline engagement,” effectively “expanding its audience reach and strengthening its overall promotional impact.”
Additionally, ChinaJoy’s virtual and in person festivals are home to the China Game Developers Conference (CGDC), which is a “dev-focused conference that has been “bringing the latest R&D insights from around the world and flying hundreds of devs to China to connect, and push the craft forward together” for nineteen years. The majority of CGDC games are increasingly popular worldwide, with a roster of thirty one high profile games. Among these are titles such as Cyberpunk 2077, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, The Outerworlds 2, and The Scroll of Tairu.
The Steam event page boasts approximately 300 games in categories including “platform recommendations, curated showcases, limited-time discounts, and other promotional initiatives.” The CJ (ChinaJoy) “Hit Games” tab lists several projects, all categorized by genre. Featured genres consist of Featured Hot Games, Action Games, Shooter Games, RPG Games, Adventure and Puzzle Games, Strategy Games, Simulation Games, and Casual Games. The virtual demo area is simply divided into two categories: Available Now and Coming Soon. The “CJ x GC Festival” tab lists Indie Game Award nominees, exhibitor games, games that are on sale, and curator’s picks. The tab for Steam China Recommendations is also neatly sorted, with separate sections for featured games, recommendations, and specific games that are not released yet. The games that do not have a featured tab, or that do not fit neatly into a singular category, are acknowledged in a directory style list. The ChinaJoy Games Show will run until 10:00 AM Pacific Time tomorrow, August 6, so interested players should make their move on sale games quickly if they have not already.
