Children of Morta Finally Gets a Release Date

Yesterday, information was released for the upcoming Roguelike RPG, Children of Morta. The game was initially scheduled to release in 2018, however for undisclosed reasons, it was delayed until 2019. However, the game finally has a definitive release date and will be coming to the PC on September 3rd, and will be available on the Nintendo Switch, the PlayStation 4, and the Xbox One on October 15th.

Children of Morta follows a family of heroes known as the Bergsons. The player gets to control one member of the family as they seek to fight off the corruption that is festering in the land of Morta. The player discovers various treasures and learns the history of Mount Morta while traveling through the mountain. The game includes randomized dungeons, hack-and-slash mechanics, and gives the player a selection of six characters to choose from. If a player uses a single character too frequently, that character will become tired and the player will have to select another family member to go out and explore. The game is reportedly a story-driven game focusing on one family standing together to fight a great evil.

Children of Morta is being developed by Dead Mage Inc., an independent game development studio that focuses on creating high quality video game content. Dead Mage Employee Amir Fassihi described it as, “a story of plain, straightforward emotions that we all recognize: hope, courage, love, and eventually sacrifice and grief.” This seems to align with the game description on the Children of Morta website that states, “It is a story of simple emotions we all know so well and value more than sometimes we dare to admit: love and hope, longing and uncertainty, ultimately loss and sacrifice we are willing to make to save the ones we care the most for.” These descriptions seem to imply that this game will be a story filled with drama. Unfortunately no new information has been released regarding the story as of yet.

The game is set to release on the PC on September 3, and October 15 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game will cost $21.99 and will have a physical and digital launch, but the physical launch will only be available in Europe and Australia for the PC, Nintendo Switch, and PS4.
