CD Projekt Red Opens New Studio to Supplement Work on Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red, the developer behind The Witcher series and now Cyberpunk 2077, has announced the acquisition of a new studio in Wroclaw, Poland. The studio, CD Projekt Red Wroclaw, joins the company’s two other branches in Warsaw and Cracow. Formerly calling itself Strange New Things, the studio is mostly comprised of industry vets from Techland, IO Interactive, and CD Projekt Red itself.

“Aside from their immense technological knowledge and artistic flair, the core team of CD Projekt Red Wroclaw are just great people,” said Cyberpunk director Adam Badowski in the studio’s announcement. “We put gamers, creative freedom and quality games above making business. These guys not only share this approach, but, much like the rest of the team, think that this attitude is essential to creating epic video games.”

The new branch will be adding to CD Projekt’s work on upcoming title Cyberpunk 2077, a futuristic roleplaying game. While CD Projekt Red is hard at work, there is currently no release date on Cyberpunk.

Strange New Things—now CD Projekt Red Wroclaw—is headed by former Techland COO Pawel Zawodny, and will continue to be post-acquisition. “We’re pretty hyped to be on the spearhead of this new office,” Zawodny said in the statement. “We know Wrocław inside out and it’s an amazing place to make games. The team is strong, and I’m sure we have both the experience and the creative firepower to make Cyberpunk 2077 an even better game.”

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
