CD Projekt Red Is Moving to a Dual Franchise System

Back in 2015, CD Projekt Red released The Witcher 3. Now, as their newest game Cyberpunk 2077 reaches the ever closer to  its April 2020 release date, what could be next for the company? Recently CD Projekt Red released a piece of gameplay footage for Cyberpunk 2077 as well as recently releasing its financial report for the year of 2019, and according to Polygon, as well as the first scheme on page 10 of the financial report, the company will move on to a two franchise system focusing on creating more games based on The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077.

The company has stated that, “This migration towards a dual-franchise model supported by several independent product lines also permits optimization of manufacturing and financial activities, mitigates important risk factors and makes it easier for Company employees to seek professional fulfillment.” In other words, this means that by limiting themselves to a two franchise system, CD Projekt Red can limit issues in its balance sheets as well as ensuring that they will be able to continue to have a large number of game developers. The report also includes data about the sales of The Witcher 3, demonstrating that the sales of the game have evened out, compared  to the previous year.

According to Polygon, the sales have produced income that has been the funding for many major projects, most notably, the porting of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game to mobile devices. This means that The Witcher 3 sales have become an important source of income CD Projekt Red. While it is currently unknown what new games CD Projekt Red will produce in the following years, the fact that they will continue The Witcher series in some form is sure to delight fans. It is currently unknown when the port for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game will be available on mobile devices, but Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on April 16, 2020, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. A port of The Witcher 3 will also be available on the Nintendo Switch on October 15.
