Following the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077 , which led to PlayStation unexpectedly taking the game off its storefront, CD Projekt Red has announced new sales milestone. In the company’s latest financial results presentation, they have revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold 35 million copies.
The game has reached the 35 million copies sold milestone faster than The Witcher III: Wild Hunt which took around 6 years to hit 30 million sales. CD Projekr Red said that the sales in the third quarter of 2025 were attributed mainly to “ongoing strong sales of games from its back catalogue, primarily Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion.” CD Projekt Red also credits the game’s release on Nintendo Switch 2 and Mac this year as one of the reasons it was able to hit the milestone.
“We are very happy and satisfied with the fact that – despite the passage of time – Cyberpunk 2077 remains such a well-performing title and continues to attract new players,” CD Projekt joint CEO Michał Nowakowski said in a statement.
“Sales of the game have exceeded 35 million copies, which testifies to the franchise’s enduring power and enables us to be even more audacious about charting its future.”
Currently, Cyberpunk 2077 is CD PROJEKT RED’s main source of revenue, due to the expansion of the game’s availability. In addition to releasing on Switch 2 and Mac, the game was added to PlayStation Plus, boosting new players and further encourged sales of the Phantom Liberty expansion.
Talking about the future of the franchise, CD PROJEKT RED said that it was “laying the foundations for Cyberpunk 2, outlining plans to scale up its development teams in Boston, Warsaw, and Vancouver and through to the end of 2027.
Earlier this year, Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith may have inadvertently revealed that players may end up traveling to two different cities in the sequel.
“Last week I was wandering around talking to different departments, and seeing what they had, ‘Oh look, this is the new cyberware, what do you think?’ ‘Oh yeah, that’s pretty good, that works here,’ ” Pondsmith explained. He went on to talk about a brand new city that will be featured in the game. Pondsmith describes it as “like Chicago gone wrong.”
“I spent a lot of time talking to one of the environment guys, and he was explaining how the new place in Orion, because there’s another city we visit — I’m not telling you any more than that but there’s another city we visit. And Night City is still there. But I remember looking at it and going, yeah I understand the feel you’re going for this, and this really does work. And it doesn’t feel like Blade Runner, it feels more like Chicago gone wrong. I said, ‘Yeah, I can see this working.’”
