It looks like we might be in store for some more classic titles coming to modern consoles. The Australian Classification Board has recently updated its site with a brand new rating for a title with a very interesting name, Castlevania Advance Collection. No specific titles were listed in this rating, but if the name is any indication, this could potentially mean that we might see some classic Game Boy Advance Castlevania games ported to modern systems. This is a very exciting thing to see, as some of those titles are some of the greatest Castlevania games in history.
The three Castlevania titles in particular that comes to the fans of the Game Boy Advance are Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, and Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. All three have been critically acclaimed and are often considered not only three of the best Game Boy Advance games ever, but some of the best Castlevania games of all time as well. Each one builds upon the Metroidvania formula that Castlevania: Symphony of the Night began in the mid 1990’s, a staple that has become synonymous with the franchise as a result.
It also helps that the apparent developer will be M2. For those who don’t recognize the name, M2 is the very same Japanese studio that ported the Castlevania NES titles to the collection that became Castlevania Anniversary Collection, which launched in 2019 for multiple platforms. They’ve also assisted Nintendo with porting older titles to the Virtual Console, which is where the company’s retro classics would be found on the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo Wii U.
It’s important to note that neither Konami nor M2 have commented nor confirmed anything since this rating went up on the Australian site. It’s more than likely that they won’t say anything until they’re ready to show us something concrete, but for the moment all signs point to another excellent compilation of all-time classics coming our way in the foreseeable future.
