Capcom Reveals More Information About Resident Evil 4 During PlayStation State of Play

During the PlayStation’s State of Play, Capcom, developer, and publisher of the Resident Evil franchise announced details of the upcoming release of the remake of Resident Evil 4. Originally announced during 2022’s PlayStation’s State of Play that Capcom will be starting the development of the game. On the website, Capcom states that  “Resident Evil 4 preserves the essences of the original game, while introducing modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics to make this the last survival horror game where life and death, terror and catharsis intersect.” Despite the reimagined storyline, the setting as well as the enemies, Los Iluminiados, remain the same.

The trailer includes an action-packed adventure following the main character, Leon S. Kennedy as well as a 1v1 battle between the antagonist, Jack Krauser. Capcom had also revealed that “The Mercenaries” mode will return as a free DLC after the launch. Resident Evil 4 will be released on March 24 for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox, and PC on Steam. Before the initial release date, Capcom announced that there will be a demo to “hold fans over.” Developers at Capcom confirm that they will be adding a VR version of Resident Evil 4 in an upcoming DLC.

The game is bringing back the third-person camera from the original game while updating the graphics and controls to better represent Leon’s survival balancing on a knife edge. One of the modern additions included in the game is the use of the knife for parrying and finishing off fallen attackers at the cost of durability. According to their Steam page Resident Evil 4, the plot is explained, “Survival is just the beginning. Six years have passed since the biological disaster in Raccoon City. Leon S. Kennedy, one of the survivors, tracks the president’s kidnapped daughter to a secluded European village, where there is something terribly wrong with the locals.”
