The Capcom website currently has timer that is set to something unknown. The timer is set to reach zero on February 21 at 1 am Eastern Time and there is speculation about a few different announcements.
The biggest idea that has been floated around is the potential for a Street Fighter announcement. This speculation would line up since the time perfectly coincides with the conclusion of Capcom’s three-day tournament called the Street Fighter Pro Tour Season Finale. In addition to the conclusion of Capcom’s tournament, 2022 is the 35th anniversary of the first Street Fighter game that was released in 1987. It has already been six years since Street Fighter V was released and followers of the franchise are hoping for a new game in celebration of the anniversary. Capcom has already told fans to “look forward to the future development of the Street Fighter series” when they acknowledged the 35th anniversary back in January. Although this idea has become the most popular among fans of Capcom, there are some other theories as to what the timer could be hinting at.
Although the remake of Resident Evil 4 has yet to be officially announced, many fans believe that this timer could be indicating the announcement that is coming. The remake is expected to include many more horror-based scenes while also giving additional screen time to some of the side characters. The timer that was released contains a font that is very similar to that used throughout the entire Resident Evil franchise. Capcom has not confirmed the game, but rumors say that it is already in development and will be released sometime in 2022.
While there are many rumors circling the gaming world about what the timer could be in reference to, we will have to wait until February 21 to learn what Capcom has prepared.
