Capcom Cup X Will Not Feature Any Teasers or Trailers

Street Fighter 6 has had a bit of a rocky few months as of late. After an absolutely explosive release people have quickly gotten over their honeymoon period with the game with problems such as a mere yearly balance patch, lack of content sans Avatar content, overpriced alternative costumes, and a stale competitive scene have been brought up as issues people have had with the game, with many in the playerbase citing Street Fighter 6 as an example of how to not take advantage of a great launch. And now, news that Capcom Cup, one of the biggest Street Fighter tournaments of the year, will not feature any teaser for any possible future content has again put a damper on people’s hopes for the game.

As stated, many in the player base are starving for any sort of content drip from Capcom, but have been met with roadblocks every step of the way. Ed, a highly anticipated character, is releasing this month on February 27th, two days after the Capcom Cup. Akuma, who is probably even more popular than Ed, is the final character in Street Fighter 6’s first season of DLC, and many players were hoping for a short teaser or even trailer for the character, but sadly it seems that neither will be happening. Even worse, many are speculating that Akuma won’t release until the very end of 2024’s spring in June, similarly to how Ed is only showing up at the tail end of winter.

On one hand, it’s commendable that Capcom is pretty straightforward about this, as to not get anyone’s hopes up. This year’s Capcom Cup doesn’t look like the most exciting tournament, and for it to just end with no hints towards Akuma or a season 2 patch would likely rile the community up even further, so this is a good PR move on Capcom’s part. On the other hand, the community has raised statements that the disappointment from this wouldn’t have even happened if Capcom would actually support the game post-launch.

But regardless, changes are coming. Perhaps not as fast as the community would like, but Ed is on the horizon and Akuma and season 2 will release eventually. Only time will tell if Street Fighter 6’s reputation among fans can survive that long.
