Capcom announced their acquisition of the small Japanese computer graphics studio Swordcanes after acquiring all of its shares, making it into a subsidiary. Founded in 2018, Swordcanes’s content revolve around the creation of 3D/2D character models, 3D environments, and 3D/2D animations.
Despite being a relatively new studio, Swordcanes worked on a large list of high-profile games including Street Fighter 6, Final Fantasy XVI, Hi-Fi RUSH, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, Monster Hunter Rise, Pokemon Snap, and more.
“Swordcanes strength lies in 3D computer graphics production technology in consumer home video game development and the studio has carried out work on major Capcom titles in the past,” said Capcom. “As such, Capcom decided to make the studio its wholly-owned subsidiary to sustainably bolster its developmental and technological capabilities.”
Capcom fans can expect more acquisitions in the future as the company looks to “enhance its game development organization.” It’s unknown what future projects Swordcanes will work on during it’s time with Capcom.
