Call of Duty: Warzone is off to an incredibly strong start. The free-to-play battle royale has made an immediate impact, despite being officially revealed one full day before it launched. In less than 24 hours, the game logged more than 6 million players, which is an insane accomplishment. While it’s still very early to tell, it’s safe to assume that those numbers will go up as Infinity Ward and Raven Software continue to improve the game with more support and content.
To put this milestone in perspective, Apex Legends was able to garner roughly 2.5 million players in the same time frame. While this is considerably less, the game would end up having more than 25 million players logged in within it’s first week. Since that was a brand new and unknown IP that was thrust upon us out of nowhere, Call of Duty: Warzone, which is an established franchise with billions of fans, will more than likely hit those numbers at a similar pace if not faster. However, it’s still way to early to see just how it will compete with the aforementioned Apex Legends as well as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and the reigning king of the battle royale genre, Fortnite.
Those playing on the PlayStation 4 got an exclusive DLC pack that was completely free. This pack contains couple of special skins, a watch, a calling card, and a 60 minute double XP token to level up faster. It’s not known when Xbox One and PC players will be getting this pack, but if it’s anything like the Modern Warfare deal, then expect to wait a long time for it. Call of Duty: Warzone is available and free-to-play for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
