Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Release Date Officially Announced

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 finally has an official release date. The game, published by Activision and developed by Infinity Ward, has a release date of October 28.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a sequel to the 2019 reboot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Players will be a part of the U.S. Special Forces, specifically Task Force 141, as they fight to take down the Colombian drug cartel.

To promote the game, the Call of Duty Twitter account announced the release date along with the cover art in a brand new trailer. The trailer flows through a shipping port and introduces multiple characters into the game and ends by showing the official cover art. The cover art is made up of Lt. Simon “Ghost” Riley and his infamous ghost mask that he wears throughout much of the gameplay.

The Call of Duty Twitter account followed up the trailer by introducing members of the team. Captain John Price will be returning to lead Task Force 141. In addition to Captain Price, the team will bring back Lt. Simon “Ghost” Riley and Sgt. John “Soap” Mactavish. Of these characters, the two new members of the team are Sgt. Kyle “Gaz” Garrick and Colonel Alejandro Vargas. Each of these characters will surely play a vital role in the game and help players to defeat the cartel.

The Call of Duty game scheduled for 2023 was delayed until 2024, making Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 the last Call of Duty game to be released for nearly two years. This release timeline makes 2023 the first year without a new game since 2004. Although Call of Duty: Vanguard did not impress fans, there are still high expectations for Modern Warfare 2 due to the previous success of other Call of Duty games.
