Call of Duty: Mobile Has Already Been Downloaded Over 20 Million Times

We know that the Call of Duty name is widely known throughout the video game community, for good and bad reasons. Despite this, it always pulls in crazy numbers each and every year, which only gives parent company Activision more reason to pump out new installments. This is no more evident with the most recent iteration in the franchise, Call of Duty: Mobile. Mobile game data collector Sensor Tower tweeted that in less than 72 hours since it launched, the game has been download more than 20 million times across multiple devices.

That’s already an insane statistic to try and wrap our heads around, but it actually gets even crazier. Call of Duty: Mobile is a free-to-play title, which means that it’s filled with microtransactions, and users have already spent more than $2 million real life dollars within the game. Sensor Tower also reports that the majority of the downloads came from India, at approximately 14%. The United States contributed to this percentage with 9%, while the remainder has yet to be compiled.

Considering that this game was created by the Chinese powerhouse Tencent, and that Activision is affiliated with it due to owning the IP, this should be considered a huge success by all parties involved. Those numbers will only continue to increase as more people get their hands on it, as will the inevitable special in game events and items that will continuously bring back players. From what we can tell, the game looks and plays fairly well compared to it’s home console counterpart, albeit without a controller/keyboard and mouse.

While this is an impressive launch, Mario Kart Tourwhich came out last week, actually had a slightly better release in terms of those same numbers. The game was downloaded over 20 million times in the first 24 hours alone, along with users spending more than $1 million on the same day. It’s quite a testament to see how much power both brands hold in the video game community, especially since they are willing to pay for in game content on a free-to-play title.

With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s launch right around the corner, we anticipate that Activision’s overall figure will only increase from there. Maybe, just maybe, they won’t have to eliminate 800 jobs at the end of their fiscal year this time. Call of Duty: Mobile is available and free-to-play now on iOS and Android.
