Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Rumored for 2020 Release

Back in February, Activision Blizzard confirmed that a new Call of Duty (COD) game was coming in 2020. Fans speculated that this would be the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops 5, and they may be right. A popular leaker, known as Okami, corroborates these rumors in a recent Twitter post.

He didn’t share much info besides a photoshopped game cover with the title Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. This has created a stir within the COD community due to Okami’s reputation for accurate leaks. He was even able to predict the launch date for Call of Duty: Warzone. Eurogamer stepped in with their own sources who also say that Black Ops Cold War is the upcoming COD for 2020. There has been no official announcement, though these reports are heavily supported.

Kotaku sources confirm that Activision has been developing a COD title set during the Cold War era for quite a while now. The time period of the game hasn’t been much of a secret, but there is still little known about the next Black Ops. There’s also confusion about which Activision studio is controlling the game’s development, with Kotaku reporting that Raven and Sledgehammer Games are no longer leading the project. It was unusual for them to head the development, as Activision tends to employ a three-year cycle with their top studios. Treyarch, the studio that has developed the first four COD Black Ops titles, will take over the game instead, thus reaching a return to normalcy.

Again, there is no official announcement, but the COD community is treating this news as heavily backed speculation. What’s true is that fans will indeed be getting a new Call of Duty game, presumably this Fall. For updates and future announcements, stay tuned to Activision’s Twitter page.
