Bungie Files Trademark Application for New Project

The folks over at the Bungie, Inc. studio have recently filed a trademark application for a new project. It will not surprise fans of the studio that this new project is not another Halo game that they used to create years ago. However, it may come as a shock that the trademark is not Destiny 3 or whatever the next Destiny titled will be named. No, the filing points to a new project titled Matter.

Nothing of substance is known about what Matter could be other than what is publicly available. The European Union Intellectual Property Office’s (EUIPO) database displays the basic legal and industry information for the application. Under the “Goods and services” section it describes the filing categories as “computer game software” that will use the internet for downloads and other entertainment purposes. These categories are typically used to filed new projects under by gaming developers. A successful filing of Matter would also give Bungie all the rights for any competitive play that would stem from the project or any other software that users would download that is associated with it. Below is the graphic representation that Bungie submitted along with the application for the hopeful intellectual property.

Bungie’s application status is currently under examination by the EUIPO. What could the new project be for the studio outside of the Destiny franchise? Bungie has mentioned in the past that Destiny is planned to span a life of around ten years. Perhaps this is the studio’s next big step into the future of gaming once the Destiny story is complete. All that exists outside of the public application information is speculation on what Matter could entail, but fans will no doubt rile up rumors and surf the Internet for any information on its development in the coming years.
