With preorders starting next week (Tuesday, June 23rd), Bungie is now selling Black Lives Matter Pins for charity and to celebrate June 19th (also known as Juneteenth for the Black community) and to support the fight for racial justice. As a part of their most recent blog post, Bungie also clarified that the pins will not be ready for release until later this year, but along with this pin, an emblem for Destiny 2 will be avalible. As stated in the same aforementioned blog post,
“We know that Guardians in Destiny fight for humanity and hope, and while the real challenges that Black people face are not as easily vanquished as the enemies in our game, we look forward to seeing Guardians come together in this fight as well. As we said before, we are committed to standing up for our Black community; including our developers, fans, and neighbors. Together, we intend to replace injustice with equality wherever we see it.”
So far, there is no definite price point for the pin (but others estimate that the link and the Destiny 2 emblem will be somewhere around $15-$20 USD. No matter the price, the earnings from these pins will be donated to the Equal Justice Initiative, which provides the proper representation for those that have been wrongly arrested and or sentenced. At the same time as this post, Bungie also opened one of their biggest streams of the year with an eight-minute and forty six-second moments of silence to honor George Floyd.
Bungie is also offering a rainbow Pride pin for purchase with the proceeds going towards the It Gets Better project, which is there to support and give a voice to the younger generation of LBGTQ+. Another distributor with a donation fund taking place currently (and ending on the 23rd of June) is Humble, who is offering over twenty Steam games and thirty different book titles for the minimum price of $30 USD.
