Brawlout, Smash Bros Inspired Game, Reveal Trailer Released

Brawlout is an upcoming platform based fighting game that is planned for release sometime on 2017. Brawlout will be made available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. Brawlout is adversities itself as a “return to the golden age of platform fighters”, seemingly trying to appeal to what has historically the most dedicated, hardcore, and stubborn fan base in the fighting game community, Super Smash Bros fans. A fan base where most people still own a 15-year-old console to play one game, Melee. This is a fan base that has a competitive scene that is as strong as when the game was first released. This form of advertising is interesting as this is not a fan base that would come to mind when thinking of gamers looking for “the new thing.” Despite this the game will be playable at EVO 2016.

According to the Brawlout website, the game takes platforming elements and rules from Smash Bros but bases a lot of the actual combat is inspired by other fighting games, namely Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, but “switching to a Looney Tunes sense of violence.” Brawlout will also feature customizable combos and move sets that unlock as the player plays the game. The game also boasts a great variety between its playable characters. Brawlout will also have supers in the form of a “rage meter”, that makes your character stronger and will be depleted once the super move is used. The player will also be able to play in up to 8 player matches in both local and online competitive multiplayer.

A trailer for Brawlout was released today on the YouTube channel for the developer, Angry Mob Games. The trailer showcases that combat and the currently available characters. The game appeared somewhat slow and not too combo heavy in the trailer. This may be due to the game still being in early stages or the trailer not doing the gameplay justice. The trailer can be viewed below.

Carlos Barragan: likes video games. He likes them so much, in fact, that he writes about them. He likes other stuff too.
