Blue Mammoth Games has established Brawlhalla as one of the few successful and popular online, free fighting games. Originally released in 2015, Brawlhalla has continually grown by adding new content and even starting an esports community. In one of the latest teases, the developers have revealed that, with the upcoming reboot of the Hellboy movie next month, the game will be adding characters from the franchise into the cast of fighters. The new characters will be arriving next month alongside the release of the movie. Included in the Hellboy additions will be: Nimue, Ben Daimio, Gruagach, and of course Hellboy. Here’s what some of the gameplay looks like on the Playstation 4:
For those unfamiliar with the game, Brawlhalla is a free fighting game that can be played online or offline with local friends that pledges that it will stay free forever. The developers at Blue Mammoth Games ended up making the game after all leaving bigger studios to establish a true indie experience back in 2009. A fighting game with a sleek, cartoon art style, Brawlhalla’s competitive scene has also grown over the years.
The Brawlhalla Pro Series is the esports platform that typically has a three week format. There are alternating “crew” battles with two versus two rotations that eventually leads to the top teams facing off in the Pro Series Final, which is an extended version of all other battles. a best of 3 set where a unique combination of players on each team competes each game
The eight teams, each with three players, are split into two groups with seeds that are based off of in game power ranking scores. But that setup is not the only format available for competitive players. A “crew battle” is another event that is essentially a relay race of quick one versus one fights the winner goes on to fight the next member of the opposing team but only retains the leftover stocks from the previous fight, until one team is knocked out. It will be fun and interesting to see how the Pros utilize the new Hellboy characters next month.
Brawlhalla is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam Store.
