Several IPs are willing to branch outside of their comfort zone, including Dungeon Fighter Online. First, it was an MMORPG, but now it has since branched out to several different genres including a fighting game (DFO Duel) and now what many would call a “Souls-like” in The First Berserker: Khazan, which just released its official trailer at the IGN Fan Fest 2025.

Despite the moniker, it looks like The First Berserker: Khazan is not going for a Dark Souls like feel, from the trailer we see here as well as the demo that has been available for a few weeks now. Instead, it seems to draw a bit more inspiration from Team Ninja’s Nioh series, with Khazan himself able to pull off wild and impressive moves to absolutely obliterate his opponents (as opposed to the Dark Souls formula of rolling around and occasionally pressing R1).

Also lending credence to the Nioh comparison is, apparently, the loot system where enemies constantly drop items and you can constantly check your armor, weapons, and equipment for upgrades. A real Diablo style approach to gameplay rewards and one that definitely has its niche within the gaming community.

Khazan is due to release on March 27th, 2025 for Playstation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC through Steam. Speaking of Steam, the aforementioned demo is out right now. If you’re a Dark Souls fan a bit apprehensive about the Nioh system, or if you’re just looking for a taste of the action but aren’t quite sure whether or not you should check this out, then download the demo through Steam here and make the decision for yourself. The biggest enemy of the first impressions games like this make are from people who don’t know what to expect going in, so be sure to take some time to be prepared if you’re interested!
