Borderlands 4 Teaser Trailer Begins With A Bang

Borderlands 4 was announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live, a short announcement trailer that concluded with a projected release in 2025, and that the game was available to wishlist now. The game seems like it will be available on Steam, the Epic Games Store, PS5, and Xbox X/S series consoles. The game will be the first main series game since Borderlands 3 in 2019, but New Tales from the Borderlands, a spin off game, was released in 2022.

The teaser trailer doesn’t give players much to go off of but its eighty second run time is filled with cataclysmic action. The trailer opens with the FireHawk symbol, the symbol associated with Lilith, a burning phoenix rising. This then disperses into embers and a planet or moon is revealed behind it. The surface of the planet appears bare, filled with craters and gray looking, much like our own moon. However, as it spins a massive glowing Eridium scar appears, that looks eerily similar to the one on Elpis. Considering how Borderlands 3 ended, this might be Elpis.

The celestial body continues to spin as it moves away from the camera. The music crescendos and then peaks as a shockwave is released from the planet. Then as it continues to spin away, a hole seems to open in space behind it, the edges like shattered glass, turned a turquoise green where there was once only space. Beyond this wormhole lies a planet, as as the crack in space continues to be pushed open by the spinning planet above, debris from the crack rains down on the planet below. This planet is definitely inhabited, and as these raining balls of fire hit the ground they extinguish in the dirt.

At one such spot, the camera becomes a first person perspective, approaching the small crater the impact created. In the crater, glowing red hot in the darkness is something. A robotic hand reaches out to pick it up, and turns it to reveal the iconic Borderlands mask. What the story holds for Borderlands 4 is anyone’s guess, but Lilith and her actions from Borderlands 3 will definitely be playing a massive role.
