Borderlands 3 Teased for Next Year

Its been a few years since Borderlands 2 first hit store shelves, and while there has been a Pre-Sequel and adventure game spinoff, fans have been eagerly awaiting a proper return to the chaotically badass Pandora. Thanks to a recent comment made by Take-Two in their fourth quarter report, fans may finally be getting what they’ve been waiting for.

During the company’s report, they said they’d expect a spike in sales revenue of $2.5 billion in their fiscal year of 2019 (April 2018-2019). This will be due to the release of Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2–which was delayed to Spring 2018–as well as the release of a “highly anticipated new title from one of 2K’s biggest franchises” in 2018. Of course, many fans (as well as this report from tweaktown.com) agree that no game from 2K Games is more anticipated than Borderlands 3.

Borderlands is one of their biggest franchises, and its been long enough for a new game. Developer Gearbox tried to move away from the Borderlands series last year by releasing Battleborn. Unfortunately, that game was quickly dismissed by gamers due to being released at the same time as another, much more popular online first-person shooter: Overwatch.

Borderlands 3 clearly seems to be the new title Take-Two is referring to, but in the unlikely event that it isn’t, what other game could be coming in 2018? Bioshock seems to be the only other candidate, but that series has been put on hold ever since its developer studios were shut down and restructured. If BioShock does return, it could be much more different than fans would like.

Of course, given Take-Two’s prediction for next year’s sales, its much more likely to be Borderlands 3. Given that Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford already showed off an early tech demo to demonstrate the Unreal Engine 4 a couple months ago, its very likely we’ll see an announcement at E3, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for that.
