What started out as just a pipe dream has turned into a reality for Koji Igarashi and ArtPlay as their IP, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, has now sold more than 1 million copies worldwide. The game exceeded expectations when it launched just last year and has since been considered a true successor to Igarashi’s Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, as well as the franchise as a whole. In addition, Igarashi and company also announced the upcoming roadmap that we can expect to see for the rest of 2020, which is chalked-full of content.
One of the upcoming pieces of content, titled Boss Revenge, is actually coming up at the end of this month. Igarashi explains that this special mode allows the player to take control of one of the four major bosses and take on the heroes themselves. Chroma Wheel, which is also slated for the end of the month, adds more character customization options for the heroes, as opposed to the preset pallets that are currently in the game.
Following this, and going into Quarter 3, will be three separate pieces of content. The first two will be Chaos Mode, a boss rush mode that can be played solo or co-op, and Vs. Mode which is essentially a Battle Royale style mode that has characters attacking each other until there is one left standing. The third one is called Classic Mode, which allows players to use Miriam through five stages along with a series of bosses to contend with too. Lastly, in Quarter 4 of 2020, the game will add its third playable character after Miriam and Zengetsu. Igarashi has already stated that it will not be Dominique.
Despite launching just under a year ago, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has done very well for itself. It’s not often that we see a crowdfunded title succeed in the way that this game has, and it’s refreshing to see the team go above and beyond for their fanbase. Igarashi and ArtPlay have definitely created something special here, and with so much more content on the way, it’s more than likely that they will be playing it for a very long time.
