Bloodborne II Might be Coming this Year

Masochistic gamers rejoice, because From Software is going to be releasing a new game sometime this year that will punish you until you love it. According to an article on Express, Bloodborne producers Teruyuki Toriyama and Masaaki Yamagiwa teased in an interview with Japanese site 4Gamers that From Software is working on some ambitious new games, and that one of them might even be ready for release sometime in 2017. While they didn’t give out anymore specific details, a sequel to 2015’s hellishly difficult action RPG is a very likely possibility.

There’s also the possibility that From Software is working on a brand new IP. Earlier last year, they released an unlisted demo reel online featuring a timeline of all their published games, including the Armored Core and Dark Souls series of games, with a tease at the end for an unnamed game–titled “FromSoftware Inc., Next Title”–to be released sometime in 2017 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and even PlayStation VR.

Back in September, From Software president and Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki announced in an interview with IGN at Tokyo Game Show that the studio would be developing three games, one of which would be a new entry in the Armored Core franchise, From Software’s mecha-based video game series. As for the other two games, Miyazaki was much more ambiguous. He said the second game would be more along the lines of something that fans have come to expect from From Software, so probably a Bloodborne or Dark Souls sequel, or a new IP similar to that.

As for the third game, Miyazaki said it would be weird. So weird, in fact, that he expects fans to say, “oh, what the hell is this very weird game that Miyazaki has created?” When asked to elaborate on this weirdness, he said:

So when I say weird, I mean that the genre we’re trying to try might be a little bit weird. Not only that, but all the other actual game content might be a little bit weird, yes.

So that should be interesting.

So, From Software will be releasing a new game this year, which could be anything from Bloodborne 2, Armored Core 6, a brand new IP or–least likely of all–Dark Souls 4. In an interview with Polygon, Miyazaki said the two DLC packs for Dark Souls would be the end of the series, then doubled back to say he wasn’t denying the possibility of bringing the series back in the future. Either way, it seems that a possible Dark Souls sequel won’t be coming anytime in the near future.

In any case, gamers should expect a new From Software title sometime this year to love/hate.
