You read that right, official Overwatch Nerf Guns. Blizzard and Nerf are teaming up to bring fans of Overwatch some special merch that will have a wide variety of uses. The first line to be distributed, as revealed at San Diego Comic Con, will be Reaper’s Hellfire Shotguns.
These nerf guns, called the Nerf Rival Overwatch Reaper Wight Edition Blaster, are a more light take on the main weapons of Reaper, as revealed in a press release. Despite their light, bright look, they are modeled almost exactly after the in-game Hellfire Shotgun models. Of course, aside from being made to look like the guns from the game, they will still be fully functional nerf guns. Each shotgun will hold 8 nerf darts, and will be able to launch darts up to 90 feet.
Although a nerf gun might not be the most exciting news to come out of this, there is one bigger bit of excitement that will come from the release of these Overwatch nerf guns: cosplay. Cosplay itself can be fairly hard to get in to because of the prices, and Overwatch cosplay is no exception. Weapon replicas for weapons can reach well into the hundreds, but with the release of these nerf guns, it will definitely help lessen the price of a Reaper cosplay as well as make overall cosplay a bit easier. In addition, nerf guns have been modified for years for cosplay because of the relative ease of customization, so we can expect to see many awesome, unique Hellfire Shotgun modifications in the future.
Despite this being the only nerf gun available from the Nerf and Blizzard collaboration, there are currently more planned Overwatch nerf gun lines planned for the future. This means that the possibility of getting weapons from heroes like Tracer, Soldier 76, McCree, and even Widowmaker, so stay tuned for the coming year.
The Nerf Rival Overwatch Reaper Wight Edition Blaster does not currently have a set release date, but it has a release window that spans the entirety of 2019 at the moment.
