A trademark for ‘Heroes of the Storm’ filed in New Zealand by the same source that registered Hearthstone and Reaper of Souls, the upcoming Diablo III expansion, points to Blizzard readying up for a new game.
Though many possibilities exist for what ‘Heroes of the Storm’ may be – a new World of Warcraft expansion, something related to Blizzard’s trading card games, a Hearthstone supplement – a likely option is that ‘Heroes of the Storm’ is the official name for a Blizzard-produced MOBA.
Ever since DotA‘s success as a mod for hit Blizzard game Warcraft III, Blizzard has been trying to get in on the MOBA action. They released a MOBA mod for Starcraft II titled Blizzard All-Stars a few years ago, and later announced plans to develop it into a separate game. Things have been silent since then, but with Blizzcon a little over a month away we may be hearing something official soon.
