Blizzard Shows Off New Game Modes and Addresses Fan Concerns In Overwatch 2: Reveal Event

After a long and tedious development, the official announcement of Overwatch 2 has fans hesitant as its release date looms closer; with many wondering if the sequel will repeat the same mistakes that ruined Overwatch 1’s player experience. Luckily, the Overwatch dev team has recognized those concerns and in a 42-minute video released earlier today, In the video, the developers addressed those fan concerns and deep-dived into the details of its upcoming game.

Starting October 4, 2022, Overwatch 2 will be available for PC and console users for PvP, with new content being pushed out every nine weeks in free seasonal updates. The season 1 update starts October 4th and with it comes 3 new heroes, 6 new maps, 30+ new skins, a new game mode called Push, and a battle pass. Sojourn and Junker Queen are two of the three new heroes to join the fray, the final to be revealed in the next coming months. Along with the new content, revamped heroes, maps, and game modes from the first game will be available for players to enjoy.

Season 2 starts December 6th with a new tank hero, new map, 30+ new skins, new mythic skin, and battle pass. For future seasons in 2023 and beyond, players can look forward to more heroes, game modes, and skins, along with the start of PvE content. In the upcoming PvE content, the Overwatch team intends to expand the game’s universe, with old enemies returning and fleshing out character backstories through new maps.

While it has been a current trend for multiplayer games to switch over to a live service system, Overwatch 2 changed to live service for its reasons. The Overwatch team knows its fans well in-game and in the real world. The Overwatch experience revolves around teamwork and community. Inclusivity and community are at the forefront of Overwatch, and the change to free-to-play includes more people joining in on that social experience. Regardless of how the first game turned out, the Overwatch team has put their heart and soul into developing the sequel. Hopefully, this new approach will push Overwatch 2 to new heights, for old and new players to enjoy.

Those who want to get a head start on the action, look forward to the private PvP Beta later this month. PC and console players can enjoy its newest map Rio and access to one of its new heroes Junker Queen: leader of Junkertown. Head over to the official site for sign-ups as the beta approaches on June 28.
